Getting Into the Details

As I move from general blocking into the actual details, the daunting task of constant stylization presents itself.

I love environment modeling, but I tend to fixate very easily. I'll spend a lot of time on details that often don't even make it to rendering. This could matter in some projects where accuracy and detail is the focus, but more often than not I catch myself going down a path of time wasting. For example, on a previous project, I spent HOURS of time modeling a series of display shelves, from the detailed wood to actual screws and hinges. Lo and behold, my work was only seen for a split second in the final video render, through a window no less.

Now, I'm consciously trying to better myself regarding that. I'm trying to let loose, so to speak, let the stylization speak for itself, and to let it be random and non-symmetrical. In the end, pretty much every part of this model is going to have to have some sort of stylized deformations, and reminding myself of that constantly is certainly helping me not get stuck on one thing, at least so far.

Below are a couple renders and wireframes of my progress to date of the schoolhouse. I want to make sure the schoolhouse looks good from all angles, most importantly the 3/4 view, and not just in the front and side views.

My next big task is going to be the bell tower and the windows, and all the fine woodworked details that'll have to go into those.
